Terms of
Enrollment
These terms govern your enrollment in self-paced courses, live cohorts, and membership tiers offered through ComposeProduceMusic. Please read them before completing your purchase.
1. Agreement to These Terms
By completing enrollment in any course, cohort, or membership tier on composeproducemusic.com (“the Site”), you (“Enrollee”) enter into a binding agreement with Dr. William E. Smith / ComposeProduceMusic (“we,” “us,” or “our”) and agree to the terms set out in this document.
These Terms of Enrollment govern the practical, transactional relationship between you and ComposeProduceMusic. They work alongside — and do not replace — our End User License Agreement (EULA) and Privacy Policy. In the event of any conflict, the EULA controls.
By clicking “Enroll” or completing checkout, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms. If you do not agree, do not complete enrollment.
2. Self-Paced Courses
What you’re enrolling in
Self-paced courses are independent study programs delivered via email. Upon enrollment, you will receive a series of lesson emails sent to the address you provided at checkout, on a weekly schedule for the duration of the course:
- Trailer Music Writing 101 — 8 weekly lesson emails
- Music Composition — 11 weekly lesson emails
- Popular Music History — 6 weekly lesson emails
- TV & Film Production Music — 6 weekly lesson emails
Your responsibilities
- Provide an accurate, working email address at checkout
- Add admin@composeproducemusic.com to your contacts to prevent lessons from going to spam
- Notify us promptly at admin@composeproducemusic.com if you do not receive a scheduled lesson
What we commit to
- Deliver all lesson emails on the stated weekly schedule following your enrollment confirmation
- Provide access to the online exam on the website for the duration of your account
- Issue a Certificate of Completion upon passing the online exam
- Respond to resend requests and support inquiries within one business day
Courses are for individual use only. Sharing login credentials, forwarding lesson emails to third parties, or distributing course content in any form is a violation of these terms and the EULA.
3. Live Cohorts
Program structure
Each cohort is a 6-week structured program with a maximum of 25 participants. Enrollment is available in two tiers:
- Core Tier (97 one-time): All 6 weekly lesson modules, all 4 live Saturday Zoom sessions with Dr. Smith, all session recordings, private cohort Discord community, and Certificate of Completion.
- Coaching Tier (97 one-time, or 7/mo × 3): Everything in Core, plus personal written feedback from Dr. Smith on your submitted cue/work, and priority Discord access with direct responses from Dr. Smith.
Schedule and sessions
Cohort dates, Zoom session dates, and submission deadlines are communicated by email following enrollment confirmation. It is your responsibility to note and adhere to these dates. Session times are posted in Eastern Time (ET). All participants are responsible for converting to their local time zone.
Attendance
Live Zoom sessions are a core part of the cohort experience. We strongly encourage attendance at all four sessions. If you cannot attend a session, the recording will be available in your account library within 48 hours. No refund, credit, or discount is offered for missed sessions.
Coaching tier submissions
Coaching tier participants must submit their work (e.g., a trailer cue audio file) by the stated submission deadline to receive written feedback before the final session. Submissions received after the deadline cannot be guaranteed written feedback before the session close, though Dr. Smith will make reasonable efforts to respond.
Submitted work must be original and created by you. You retain all ownership of your submitted work. By submitting, you grant Dr. Smith permission to reference or discuss your work in the context of private cohort feedback only — not for public use.
Cohort cancellation by us
In the unlikely event that a cohort must be cancelled by ComposeProduceMusic before it begins (e.g., due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances), all enrolled participants will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer their enrollment to the next available cohort of the same program. If a cohort is cancelled after it has begun, we will offer a pro-rated refund for any remaining sessions not yet delivered.
Cohort rescheduling
We reserve the right to reschedule individual live sessions with reasonable advance notice (minimum 48 hours) when necessary. Rescheduled sessions do not constitute a cancellation and are not eligible for refund.
4. Membership Tiers
Membership tiers are monthly subscriptions that provide access to ongoing community content and benefits. A free account registration is required before upgrading to any paid tier.
- Free Account: Free blog content, course update emails, cohort announcements. No credit card required.
- The Listener (/mo): Community feed, Discord access, monthly updates.
- The Composer (9/mo): Monthly genre analysis, recorded workshop library, sync brief breakdowns, 0 cohort discount.
- The Sync Pro (9/mo, limited to 10 members): Monthly personal async check-in with Dr. Smith, monthly YouTube Live session, private Sync Pro Discord room, first access to new cohorts.
Membership benefits are for the named account holder only and may not be shared or transferred. Courses and cohorts are sold separately and are not included in any membership tier pricing.
The Sync Pro tier is limited to 10 active members. If the tier is at capacity, you will be placed on a waitlist. Waitlist position does not guarantee enrollment or lock in the current price.
5. Payments
All prices are listed in US Dollars. Payment is required in full at the time of enrollment for one-time purchases. Monthly membership fees are charged on a recurring monthly basis on the date you first subscribed.
The Coaching tier cohort is available on a 3-month payment plan (7/month × 3). If a payment plan installment fails, access to cohort content may be suspended until the outstanding balance is resolved.
You authorize us to charge the payment method you provide at checkout for the amount shown. For recurring memberships, this authorization continues until you cancel. It is your responsibility to keep your payment information current in your account.
All transactions are processed securely by our payment processor. We do not store full payment card numbers.
6. Refund Policy
Due to the digital nature of our products, all sales are generally final. Exceptions are as follows:
Self-paced courses
A full refund is available if requested within 7 days of purchase and no more than the first lesson email has been delivered. To request a refund, email admin@composeproducemusic.com with your name and order number within this window.
Cohorts
A full refund is available if requested at least 72 hours before the cohort start date. No refunds are available after the cohort has begun, regardless of attendance at sessions. If a cohort is cancelled by us before it begins, a full refund is provided automatically.
Membership
Monthly membership fees are non-refundable. To avoid being charged for the next billing period, cancel your membership before your monthly renewal date.
Processing
Approved refunds are processed within 5–10 business days to the original payment method. We reserve the right to decline refund requests that do not meet the above criteria.
7. Cancellation
Cancelling a membership
You may cancel your paid membership at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at admin@composeproducemusic.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access to paid tier content through the end of the period you have already paid for.
Cancelling a course enrollment
Self-paced courses do not have an ongoing subscription to cancel — you have purchased a course and lesson delivery proceeds on the weekly schedule. If you wish to stop receiving lessons, contact us and we will suspend delivery. This does not entitle you to a refund outside of the 7-day window described in Section 6.
Account deletion
You may request deletion of your account at any time by emailing admin@composeproducemusic.com. Account deletion is permanent and will remove access to all purchased content, exam history, and certificates on file. We recommend downloading your certificates before requesting deletion.
8. Community Conduct
All cohort participants and Discord community members are expected to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully. The following behaviors will result in immediate removal from the cohort or community without refund:
- Harassment, bullying, or discriminatory behavior toward other participants or instructors
- Sharing, distributing, or reproducing cohort content, session recordings, or lesson materials outside the cohort
- Spamming, soliciting, or promoting competing services within cohort channels or the Discord community
- Sharing another participant’s submitted work or personal information without their explicit consent
- Attempting to disrupt live sessions or misuse the platform in any way
We reserve the right to determine what constitutes a violation of community standards at our discretion. Removal decisions are final.
9. Session Recordings
All four live Zoom sessions in each cohort are recorded. Recordings are made available to enrolled participants in their account library within 48 hours of each session and remain accessible for the duration of your account.
Recordings are for your personal use only. You may not:
- Share, upload, or distribute recordings to anyone not enrolled in the cohort
- Post recordings to any public or private platform, including YouTube, social media, or file-sharing services
- Use recordings for commercial purposes or to create derivative content
By participating in a live session, you acknowledge that the session is being recorded and that your participation (including your name, audio, and video if your camera is on) may be captured in the recording available to other cohort participants.
10. Certificates of Completion
Certificates of Completion are issued upon:
- Self-paced courses: Passing the online exam on the website after all lesson emails have been delivered.
- Cohorts: Completing the 6-week cohort program (both Core and Coaching tiers).
Certificates are issued in the exact name provided at registration. Please ensure your name is entered correctly at account creation. We do not reissue certificates to correct errors resulting from incorrect information provided at enrollment.
If you believe there is an error in your certificate that was caused by a system error on our end, contact us within 30 days of issuance and we will investigate and correct if appropriate.
Certificates represent completion of the program as described. They do not imply endorsement by any accreditation body, institution, or employer. Whether a certificate is accepted for professional development credit is determined solely by the receiving institution.
11. Modifications to Programs
We reserve the right to update, modify, or improve course content, cohort structure, and membership benefits at any time. Changes to self-paced course content will not affect lesson delivery already in progress for enrolled participants.
We may update these Terms of Enrollment from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email and/or a notice on the Site. Continued enrollment or use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Pricing is subject to change. Price changes do not affect enrollments or subscriptions already in progress — the price you paid at enrollment is honored for the duration of that enrollment or billing period.
