The TV & Film Production Music email course teaches the full sync pipeline. The cohort applies every stage of that pipeline to real work — brief analysis, composition sessions, catalog review, and professional delivery — with direct critique from a composer who has placed music on NBC, CBS, and Fox Sports.
Format
Six structured weeks, one focused topic per week. Each week opens with lesson material delivered by email, followed by a group or individual work session. Coaching tier members join three live calls with Dr. Smith for direct feedback on their work.
Community
Every cohort member gets access to a private cohort Discord channel for the duration of the program — peer feedback, work-in-progress sharing, and direct communication with Dr. Smith between sessions.

Market & Brief Analysis
Live brief breakdown session: Dr. Smith walks through real sync briefs and demonstrates how to decode and respond to each. Group exercise: respond to the same brief with different compositional approaches.
Composing to Picture — Core Principles
Watch and analyze real sync placements. Group critique of each member’s Brief response track from Week 1. Focus: does the music serve the moment, or fight it?
Genre, Mood & Catalog Gaps
Analysis of each member’s existing catalog (Core tier: peer review. Coaching tier: Dr. Smith review). Identify genre and mood gaps. Plan the tracks needed to make the catalog more placeable.
Composition Sprint — New Track
Each member composes one new track targeting a specific brief or catalog gap identified in Week 3. Mid-week peer check-in on work in progress.
Submission Standards & Mix Review
Technical session on delivery formats, loudness targets, stem exports, and metadata. Group mix review — is the track ready for submission or does it need work?
Full Catalog Review & Submission Strategy
Each member presents their catalog with a brief positioning statement. Group and Dr. Smith feedback on which tracks to lead with, which need work, and which libraries to target first.
